Cuban Frita
Traditional Cuban Frita
This is not your typical burger.
As a matter of fact, it's mixed with chorizo butter and paprika. Now, wait there is more. Take it up a notch by adding fried potato strings on top of the patty for the finishing touch.
This is one of those recipes you can't really be counting calories. Just try it it's definitely one of my favorite.
Enjoy and let me know if you make it. Would love to know your thoughts.
INGREDIENTS
1 pound of ground beef
1 tablespoon of chorizo butter
2½ teaspoons of smoked sweet pepper or paprika
3 potatoes
1 onion
1 can of tomato sauce
1 teaspoon of salt - optional
Vegetable oil for frying
Soft hamburger bread
INSTRUCTIONS
Start by mixing the chorizo butter and the paprika in a bowl large enough until they become a reddish color.
Now add the ground beef and salt (optional) and mix thoroughly.
Keep in bowl and cover with plastic wrap placing in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to better settle the flavor.
Meanwhile, chop the onion into very small cubes and cut the potatoes into small very thin strips. Set aside.
When the 2 hours are up it's time to prepare the hamburgers by forming several meatballs using our hands to create them.
Flatten these balls to form a medallion and fry in a pan with a little hot oil. Take them off of the stove and set aside.
Now it's time for the potatoes strings. Soak them in enough water to remove the starch, drain the excess water and fry them in vegetable oil. Or if you have an air dryer cook them there it's healthier and faster. The other option is just to buy a bag of already made potato strings from the grocery store.
Once everything is cooked t's time to place the hamburger and the potatoes inside the bread along with the onion and the tomato sauce.
RECIPE TIPS
I prefer potatoes bread for this recipe. It gives it an extra taste that goes well with these fritas.
In some recipes, I have seen where it asks to add ground pork or chorizo, as well as spices such as cumin or oregano. Either of these is fine if like to try them.
Another tip is to make grilled hamburgers and the results are just as yummy although not your traditional Cuban recipe.
